City of Ale 2015 is soon upon us and we are proud to yet again be a part of it. We have a number of different events happening through out the celebrations.
The objectives of the Norwich City of Ale are:
- To facilitate collaboration between local breweries and city real ale pubs;
- To organise an annual festival as a celebration of real ale from local breweries to be held throughout the city in real ale pubs and other venues selling real ale;
- To produce and distribute a programme of events, ales, pubs and breweries;
- To disseminate Norwich City of Ale to a national and international audience;
- To partner with organisations that share our ethos and support our objectives;
- To engage in activities that support the achievement of these objects.
There are plenty of things to look forward to with us and other pubs so why not see what we have going on in our events page, here, as well as other events happening through out the city. For more information visit the city of ale website.
The evenings are getting lighter and the sun is starting to shine again. Over the winter months we have been doing alot of work to the inside of the pub. With as little disruption as possible we have managed to decorate the inside of the pub downstairs, as well as doing some little bits of work all pubs of a certain age need doing!!
Now it is time to turn our attention to outside. We have been fortunate enough to have some help from JDP Tree Surgery this year to clear away a large amount of leaves from the colder months and get things looking tidier.
Unfortunately, yes, the swings have gone. The climbing frame still remains. However the area the swings sit on were deemed unsafe as a children’s play area due to the padding under the swings being worn away. We have put in a temporary solution for this year and will reinvest in the area next year.
Finally we shall be beginning work on a new BBQ area. After the success of many BBQs last year for both private and corporate events we have invested in a slightly more permanent area for our chefs to work in. So when the sun shines we will be ready! This years BBQ menu is avaliable here and we are taking ready to take bookings big or small.
We look forward to seeing you in the sunshine!
We had a goal when taking on The Eagle, and it was to provide good locally sourced food. We work with a number of suppliers to make sure that the food on your plate has come from a local supplier where possible.
We use the multi award winning Swannington Farm to Fork for all of our meats who specialise in supplying fully traceable meat with the emphasis on quality, taste, animal welfare and food miles. Their name features across our menu as as we are proud to use such a quality local butcher
All of our fruit and veg comes from Easters, who have been in Norwich for over 35 years and uses local produce, they hand pick their fruit and veg to ensure the best reaches us and in turn reaches you the customer! From the lime in an Adnams Gin and Tonic to the potatoes on the Sunday Roast, it all comes from Easters.
Our fish comes from Howards and Son in Norwich, they have been in the business since 1889, and source their produce locally where possible and deliver it fresh to us. The Fish of The Day comes to us from Howards and Sons and is then battered using Norfolk Brewhouse Ale in the batter mix for the perfect Fish and Chips
Our cheeses are delivered from the Cheese Truckle, keep an eye out on the Christmas Menu for the Smoked Norfolk Dapple!
Even the chef was locally sourced!!
We live in a county where we are spoilt with the range of local brewers.
We have been extremely fortunate to work closely with a number of brewers to make sure we have the right ales for our customers. Comments are always welcome! If there is something you would like us to sell let us know.
For those of you who visit the pub you will always see beers from the Norfolk Brewhouse, we are particular fans of their ales, and they have even made us our own under the name Golden Eagle Ale. This is a stable on our bar.
We have also had the pleasure of joining Humpty Dumpty for the day and watching the brewing process form start to finish, and even getting involved! Whilst the 5am start was not something we are used to we had a fantastic day seeing how the beer is made. We had our arms twisted and even tried some of the beers whilst we were there.
The batch of beer we saw brewed was Reedham Gold, which we were lucky enough to sell in at The Eagle re branded by Humpty Dumpty in honour of our resident ale expert and manager, Oscar.
Another stable beer we have is from Woodefordes, and we had the pleasure of venturing out to the Fir and Feathers in Stalham and seeing the brewery. We were shown round by Rodger and were able to see the old brewery and the new brewery, both of which are still in operation producing 19,000 barrels of Woodfordes a year!!
Whilst we would always recommend The Eagle or its sister pub The Garden House we highly recommend venturing out to the Fir and Feathers and trying some Woodfordes straight from the source.
We at The Eagle love our dogs! On the rare occasions you may see my dog Murphy running around the garden, or Oscar may have his dog Dottie running around. We are a friendly dog friendly pub!! So if your out walking the dog and are in need of some liquid refreshment pop in for a beer, or if you need some fuel drop in for something to eat!
